Should we cut Parabens, Silicones and Sulphates from Hair Products? Let us consider
A great number of hair and beauty products contain a % of the above, we should look at these ingredients as what are their benefits and counterindication depending on individual needs.
Let us Explore the Pros and Cons
Not all Parabens, Silicones and Sulphates are bad, depending on your hair and scalp needs, they have their place in preventing bacteria growth, encourage shine while removing dirt and oil, on the other hand depending on one's hair and scalp skin type can cause allergies and product build up.
But how do we choose if to avoid completely or only sometimes Parabens - Silicone - of Sulphates,
here some explanation on how they work .
Parabens are preservatives they fight Bacteria and Fungus in a wide range of hair and skin products, the advantage is that there will be no fungus growth around you, but the product shelf life will be greatly shortened. The bad news is that with Parabens you could develop allergic reactions and have been albeit inconclusively linked to skin cancer.
Silicones are good to make your hair shine and tangle free but, on their way to achieve this, they block the pores on your hair shaft, Silicones will not deal with split ends or nourish dry hair but will weight it down and cause product build up.
Sulphates are a good detox as are used as a cleaning agents to separate and wash away oil and dirt from hair and skin, although they create a satisfying lather, (only too much at times), without a proper plan as advised by your stylist too much of it can strip hair/scalp from its natural oils and protein causing irritation to scalp, dryness and frizz to hair.
Your stylist will be able to guide you in the correct product and routine choice.
