Our Hair Heroes of 2011

By RMUK on December 29th, 2011

Cheryl Cole
She has gone from brunette and bouffant to blonde and sassy but whatever Cheryl Cole does with it, the nation’s women love her hair. The 28-year-old has been voted Britain’s hair icon for 2011 with thousands envious of her thick, full locks.

Jessie J
Best known for her poker straight, ink black bob with a perfect fringe slashed above the eyes , Jessie J brought precision cutting to the forefront of fashion this year with her must-have head-hugging cut in a pristine shade of purest black. This year also saw Jessie experiment with wigs and extensions, showing off a violet bob and silver dip-dye lengths as well as glamorous waves and curls.

Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge
The latest addition to the Royal Family has fast become a firm favourite with the press and public alike thanks to her chic outfits and fabulously blow-dried bouffant.
Making glossy, gorgeous, natural-looking luxury a trend in itself.

Rihanna
A constant style chameleon, Rihanna’s styles this year have ranged from bright red corkscrew curls to a demure blonde for her photoshoot for Vogue magazine

Katy Perry
She was announced as the face (and hair) of ghd in April 2011 and Katy Perry continued to keep everyone talking about her barnet throughout the year with colour changes a-go-go. When Katy Perry dyed her hair pink, it didn’t come as that much of a shock to fans as she has been known to change the colour of her locks quite often. From black and pink to blonde and blue, this year has seen Katy give her pin-up girl style a comic-book colourful twist.

Alexa Chung
Alexa always manages to style her pared-down bob in different ways to keep it looking fresh and new. Straight locks suit the cut of the bob giving a more boyish charm, while gentle waves help soften the style making it a more feminine and vintage look. Alexa has become known as Queen Bee of balyage.
”I just like her tossed off hair. It’s chopped, she lets her natural texture come out, she doesn’t look tortured with blow dryers or straightening irons or anything. She is sexy, obviously very sexy, but in a fresh and kind of tomboy-ish way.”

Lady Gaga
The queen of kook tamed things down a bit in 2011, switching her OTT multi-coloured wigs for high-octane glamour – albeit with a trademark Gaga twist.
Mint green bouffants, silver chignons and pastel pink ponytails all ensured the first lady of pop stayed firmly in the spotlight this year.

The big debate 2: Straight v’s curly hair styles

By RMUK on December 29th, 2011

Olivia Palermo regularly switches between straight, wavy and even ringlets! Her straight locks reveal the lustrous thickness of her enviable tresses, while the cute waves help show off the subtle dip-dyed colour effect. Both styles look amazing

Alexa Chung always manages to style her pared-down bob in different ways to keep it looking fresh and new. Straight locks suit the cut of the bob giving a more boyish charm, while gentle waves help soften the style making it a more feminine and vintage look.

Leighton Meester knows exactly how to work her hair to suit her look. Whether ultra modern and edgy with razor-sharp tresses or old-school Hollywood waves, she works her hair into her outfit to perfection – even matching her make-up to the look.

Taylor Swift doesn’t do straight that often, but when she does it’s always spot on. While her natural curls keep her looking sweet and girlie, the straight tresses help give her a more grown-up look.

Dannii Minogue can do things with a bob that no other woman can! The star looks stunning with sleek and chic flapper-girl locks and equally stunning with beach-kissed waves.

Blake Lively has rapidly become our go-to celeb for fabulous A-list hair. Not afraid to experiment with different looks, Blake’s hair lets her be playful with her styles – meaning that she never has a bad hair day.

Kelly Rowland uses Cloud Nine Irons on X-Factor 2011

By RMUK on December 14th, 2011

Kelly Rowland’s stylist has been using the professional hair tools from the Cloud Nine range to style Kelly’s locks on The X Factor.

As the competition heated up and the panels’ live show looks cause as much conversation as the contestants’ performances, Kelly has been winning the battle of the judges week after week with jumbo curls and loose waves.
Loving the looks, Kelly requested both the Wand and Micro Iron for her personal use and tweeted her thanks to Cloud Nine saying, “Thank you @CloudNineC9 for the wonderful hair products!”
And it seems that singing advice isn’t the only thing Kelly’s been passing onto her girls as Misha B was soon following in her mentor’s styling footsteps and requested the Micro Iron to spice-up her strands too, tweeting “THANKYOU SO MUCH FOR MY MINI IRONS AND THE AMAZING PRODUCTS!!! Mwahhh xXx”

The Frizz

By RMUK on July 27th, 2011

The Look: A flurry of frizz flounced down the runways with crimped, curled and candyflossed locks taking a walk on the wilder side of the season.

At Sonia Rykiel hairstylist Guido Palau created the: “Artsy, Left Bank Parisian woman” using Redken Thickening Lotion, while at Marc Jacobs, Guido took hair to a Studio 54 party, calling the look: “Grace Coddington frizz” – inspired by iconic 70s models.

For the Topshop Unique show, hair was fluffed, fizzed and streaked with colour, while at Felder Felder, triangle hair was frizzed into textured mussed-up waves.

Not the easiest trend to translate for everyday hair, channel the look by dusting off your crimping irons and playing with volume.

Celebs ‘do-ing it : Georgia May Jagger, Gwen Stefani and Sarah Jessica Parker
