Mary Kate Olsen’s new darker hair, and how to achieve this at RMUK

By RMUK on June 7th, 2012

Known for her matching blonde locks with twin sister Ashley, Mary Kate Olsen has tinted her blonde hair a beautiful brunette colour.

RMUK loves this transformation wowing us with hoe healthy and shiny her hair now looks.

Out of the twins, Mary Kate has always been the more adventurous with her hair colour but has always returned to her ash blonde roots.

Mary Kate showed off her new look at the CFDA Awards where she was picking up her award Womenswear Designer of the Year for her fashion label The Row.

To achieve her new look Mary Kate’s hair will have had to be prestrained, the reason for this is because bleached hair has a higher level of porosity than unbleached hair.  Bleach causes damage the hair’s outermost layer, allowing the hair to become more porous, and the hair will more readily absorb the base tones of the darker dye.  This often results in hair that is muddy, drab, and “off-tone”. In order to prevent this, it is necessary to replace the missing pigment which has been stripped away with bleach.  It will be necessary to replenish pigments before applying the darker dye
