Think again. There’s barely a celebrity on any red carpet who hasn’t had a little help from hair extensions.

Hair extensions such as Great Lengths which are real hair extensions will not damage your hair as long as you follow the after care provided by our stylists. They will not cause baldness as at RMUK they are applied by a pro. We advise you to brush your hair daily to avoid matting which can put pressure on the bonds and cause them to come out. We advise that you use Great Lengths hair care and avoid using every day haircare. If you follow our advice your extensions should last up to 4 months, sometimes longer. We often get asked how long hair needs to be to have hair extensions we suggest that your crown area of your hair is long enough to cover the bonds, in other words your top section of your hair should reach the nape of your neck.

Well looked after hair extensions should look like Cheryl Cole

Britney’s hair extensions look like they haven’t been brushed properly and have become matted. She wouldn’t be able to look like this as the new judge of X Factor USA!

In the 1950s, hair was about height, curls and hairspray. Women often visited the hairdressers two or three times a week to have their hair elaborately teased and “set”. Hats added even more drama on top of dressed styles.

Vidal Sassoon’s “wash and wear” cuts of the 1960s changed all that, allowing women to spend less time on their appearance. As more and more women entered the workforce, they needed cuts that would reflect authority and efficiency in a male-dominated world.

Hailed as one of the world’s first celebrity hairdressers, Sassoon’s client list included Twiggy, Jane Fonda and Mia Farrow. Although he opened his first London salon in 1954, his first New York branch opened its doors in 1965 and became one of a string of international salons.

“My idea was to cut shape into the hair, to use it like fabric and take away everything that was superfluous.”

Sassoon didn’t invent the idea of short hair for women, but he brought a range of short styles into the mainstream.

Sassoon once explained to the Los Angeles Times that he viewed hair like fabric which needed to be shaped.

“My idea was to cut shape into the hair, to use it like fabric and take away everything that was superfluous.”

Vidal Sassoon’s signature cuts are still fashionable today

Sassoon didn’t invent the idea of short hair for women, but he brought a range of short styles into the mainstream.

He is perhaps best remembered for his “Mary Quant” cut, a geometric five-point bob worn by the fashion designer which contrasted sharply with the romantic, curly looks of the 1950s. Sassoon cuts “swept away classic femininity and added design into hair”, says Franklin.

Another look, the “Greek Goddess”, a short tousled perm, was inspired by the women of Harlem in New York.

And his looks got even shorter, such as the “pixie crop” worn by Mia Farrow in Rosemary’s Baby. This was shocking to some in an era where androgynous style was only beginning to take off.

Today Sassoon-esque short hair on women is a standard look. “He made short hair sexy,” says hair stylist Lee Stafford.

Reactions of one kind or another to the use of hair dye products are not that uncommon. They range from irritation occurring locally in areas in direct contact with the dye, to genuine allergy which will provoke local symptoms but may also produce a systemic reaction affecting other areas of the body.
In both cases the symptoms can vary from very mild to quite severe.
To avoid unnecessary reactions, RMUK offer a simple, easy to use skin allergy test that is standard within the professional hairdressing industry and is used to help indicate if the client is likely to have a problem with the hair dye.
Clients are allergy tested 48 hours before every colouring treatment to ensure there are no bad reactions; the records are then kept for future reference.
The allergy test involves applying a small amount of the prepared dye to an area of skin in an out of the way place. Most frequently, the skin behind the ear or on the inside of the arm at the elbow is used as this skin is relatively thin and sensitive. During the allergy test the area of skin used should be left untouched and uncovered during the 48 hour duration of test.
If redness, burning, itching, pain, or blisters and eruptions develop at or near the site of application during the two day test it means you are sensitive to the dye and you should not use it.

RMUK will not colour a client’s hair without an allergy test beforehand, this is to ensure the safety of the client.

I found out about Roberto Moura’s salon (RMUK) through the Pink Gorilla discount app last week. The salon caught my eye because they were offering 50% off a cut for first time customers when you showed the Pink Gorilla logo to them – fantastic!
I booked an appointment for the same day with no problem as they are a big salon with lots of hairdressers, and they open late on Fridays for the post work- pre night out crowd! I was shown to my chair and given a drink and a few magazines straight away, then my stylist Amy came to talk me through what I wanted. She was really lovely, listened to what I wanted and made suggestions when I asked for advice. I felt really at ease and that was before the hair wash and scalp massage – always a highlight!
Back in the chair Amy then asked if I wanted a complimentary back and shoulder massage – it would have been rude to say no! The stress of the working week was quickly being forgotten.
By the time I was having my hair cut I was really relaxed and properly enjoying a pampering. I had a fun conversation with Amy and she helped me brave an ‘important’ fringe decision too!
My half price haircut came to a mere £17 and I was also given some vouchers to recommend a friend and gain another half price cut. Fabulous. They offer a free fringe trim service too for inbetween cuts.
I bounced out of there, all cheery – very much like I’d just stepped out of a salon
All the staff were friendly, the service and value exceeded expectations and I will definitely be going back again soon. Highly recommended!

Wendy, Leeds

I first started going to RM:UK about 2 years ago and have been a regular customer since both for hair and beauty treatments.
Despite being a big city centre salon, there is a lovely friendly atmosphere in the salon and you are always made to feel welcome by the lovely Gemma on reception and Roberto himself will always smile and say hello.

Hair
Always one for a special offer, I’ve had my hair cut and coloured by several of the team and always been pleased. Jonathan is a lovely guy and always takes time to talk to you and definitely knows his stuff!

Caroline, Leeds

A very swanky salon, spacious and modern, chrome and mirrors everywhere and no natural smells anywhere.
There’s a massive range of products and treatments on offer in the beauty salon ranging from demalogica facials which many a manicured person would highly recommend as the best facial products available – exclusively available in salons only. Guinot facial treatments, gel and acrylic nails, electrolysis, intense pulsed light and waxing treatments…massively comprehensive services.
All kinds of hair cuts, shapes and dying are available too. This is an all round, get anything treated or created salon at mid-high range prices.

Amy, Leeds

Had a Christmas haircut last weekend, excellent service as always

Nick, Leeds

For most hair was kept in simple buns or ponytails as to not distract from the fabulous details on their dresses as shown by Lilly Collins, Gisele, Gwyneth Paltrow, Beyonce and Nina and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley

Talking about Gwyneth’s hair Errol Douglas said, “Mrs. Martin does hot. Again! She always keeps the hair old school movie star sleek and simple, focusing on its condition and polished finish, so that the dress can make a statement. She’s rocking a a huge SS12 trend in the centre parting, starting low for a little more drama fitting with the occasion. I love the shorter dress length to the front and the embellished pocket detail here, it makes sense to keep the hair stylishly simple.”

Side partings and curls were still on trend at the ball as sported by Hilary Swank, Amy Adams and Emma Roberts

Another hair trend worn at the Ball was the softly tousled looked as see on Heidi Klum, Liv Tyler, Scarlet Johansson and Chloe Sevigny

One of the hottest celebrity hairstyling trends right now is the Balayage, known by it’s common name, the two-tone hairstyle or as ombre, borrowed from the fashion term for a graduated color from dark to light. The hairstyle embraces the visible root, so instead of racing to the salon to touch up your roots, with the ombre hairstyle, we flaunt those roots.

The reason for balayage’s increasing popularity? Society’s elite moving towards a more natural look in hair colour, and consequently stepping away from stripy, zebra-like highlights. Fashion models, socialites and Hollywood’s brightest stars have lately been embracing the natural look, and of course, where the stars lead, the people shall follow!

Whether you want a barely noticeable colour shift or a dramatic change, balayage is likely to work in your favour. Balayage is an ideal colouring technique for any kind of lightening, whether you’re after a blonde boost or want to add some caramel tones to your naturally brown hair.

Balayage or grown-out highlights — is big news this year with heaps of celebs, including Drew Barrymore, Cameron Diaz, Sarah Jessica Parker, Lauren Conrad, X Factor’s Caroline Flack and Leighton Meester lightening their ends. They were led by Queen Bee of this trend, Alexa Chung and joined by Aussies Rose Byrne, Jen Hawkins and Caitlin Stasey.
