Tyra Banks Raves about Essie Nail Polish on her new website

By RMUK on December 20th, 2011

Essie nail polish is probably one of the best-known and most-used nail polishes out there. You can find its cute little rectangle bottles at your local drugstores and nail salons. Believe it or not, Essie has been around since 1981, and three of the 12 original nail colors are still around today: Blanc, Baby’s Breath and Bordeaux. Essie has made its impact on women’s nails around the world with its colors ranging from pale pinks to dark richer shades. Everyone has her favorites, but some colors just get more play then others, like Essie’s Mademoiselle, Sugar Daddy and Ballet Slippers, which are the top three most popular shades of all time.

Who’s Your Sugar Daddy?

Essie’s Sugar Daddy is anything but bling-bling; it is a subtle pink color that is grown-up friendly. Sugar Daddy works for every occasion from weddings to office events. The light color works with all types of wardrobes, which means it won’t look out of place when you’re wearing vibrant colors or dark clothing. This nail polish has even been recognized in “InStyle” magazine and has been nominated as its Best In Beauty Buys for Neutral Nail Polish in three different years (2011, 2010 and 2007).

Excuse Me, Mademoiselle

If your looking for the perfect sheer pink nail polish, then don’t look much further than Mademoiselle. Mademoiselle has been a longtime favorite among women everywhere because it works well with every skin tone. According to LA manicurist April Foreman, who has painted Halle Berry’s and Charlize Theron’s nails, “it’s so classic, it flatters both dark and fair complexions.” Not only has it won over women’s nails from all over the world, but it has also won over both “Allure” and “InStyle” Magazine. Mademoiselle has won awards from both publications, including Readers’ Choice from “Allure” in 2009 and 2008.

Are Those Your Ballet Slippers?

No, not those ballet slippers, but close enough. This nail polish is called Ballet Slippers for a reason — it has that pale pink color that you would find on a classic ballet slipper. Have you noticed a trend yet? You can’t go wrong with light/sheer pink colors. No matter your skin color or the clothes you wear, these types of shades will flatter you. These shades even flatter all types of nail lengths. “Redbook” Magazine states, “Short nails painted a sheer nude pink give off a fresh, girlish vibe.”

And the Runners-Up

I’m sure that you wouldn’t be surprised if Essie’s fourth and fifth most popular shades were two more different shades of light pinks. Well, prepare yourself, they aren’t. But don’t get too excited just yet, since a sheer white color called Waltz came in fifth. Waltz is a light elegant white color that is perfect for French manicures and wedding days. Now for the exciting part; a dark deep red, almost purple color called Wicked came in fourth. You can find this nail polish in the plum family. “O” Magazine suggests, “if you have dark skin try deep, saturated raisin hues.” Pair this shade of nail polish up with a deep berry lipstick for a dressy occasion.
