IPL aims to serve undesirable bodily hair an eviction notice! The technology aims to produce intense pulses of light delivered over a short period and fired at stubborn hair. Intense Pulsed Light systems are different from lasers in that they can deliver hundreds of wavelengths (or colours) in each burst of light. Certain filters are used that target these flashes of light so that they can work in as precise a way as lasers. Simply, the burst of light to the hair causes damage to the follicle in the same way as a laser.

Convening with the on-hand technician, clients can pose any questions they may have regarding the procedure and its expected effects. The therapist will expertly operate the specialised equipment, focussing the powers on the chosen area(s). The treatment will work toward the cumulative nullification of pesky follicles, aiming to achieve smooth results.

the different bikini waxes available at RMUK

By RMUK on June 7th, 2012

Q: What is the difference between all bikini waxes?

  • Bikini is your hair line from your underwear
  • G String is a higher version of the bikini wax but not as high as a brazilian
  • Brazilian is a strip of hair at the front, you may have this strip as wide or thin as you like. All the hair from the underneath and the back is removed.
  • Hollywood is where all the hair is removed from the front to the back.

Hot wax versus strip wax, both available at RMUK

By RMUK on January 19th, 2012

Hot wax is heated at a higher temperature making the pores open better making the hairs come out easier, though it does take longer to do. But you get better results and worth paying that little bit extra for. Hot wax also doesn’t break the hairs off as easy so you are much less likely to get ingrown hairs. Hot wax is fantastic for small, sensitive areas such as underarm, bikini and lip. As long as you follow the correct before and after care you should not have a problem.

Hot wax is spread thickly onto the skin and allowed to dry slightly before it is gently peeled away. This method is far less painful than most and pulls hair directly from the roots. The benefits include fewer in-grown hairs, less breakage and therefore longer regrowth periods. This wax is recommended for sensitive areas. Strip wax is recommended for thicker, less sensitive skin eg legs, arms, chest and shoulders. A thin layer of wax is applied to the skin and is then removed using a paper strip.

When our therapists use hot wax on sensitive areas they will first apply an oil to the skin which acts as a barrier between the wax and the skin. Therefore, the wax is able to shrink wrap around the hair and will not stick to the skin.

It is advised that your hair should be about ½ cm long. If you have been waxing leave it to grow for about 4-5 weeks. If you have been shaving leave it to grow for 2 weeks. Please do not trim before your appointment as you may trim the hair too short.

Everyone has different pain thresholds so your experience may be different to someone else’s. If you have waxing done on a regular basis (every 4-5 weeks) you will find it becomes easier as your hairs will thin and become sparse. For anyone will a low pain threshold you may have a couple of Nurofen about 30 mins before your appointment to reduce pain.

No matter what area(s) to have waxed please do not feel embarrassed, our beauty therapists do this all day everyday

Aftercare is vital so for 24hours after you appointment you will need to avoid the sun, sunbeds, hot showers/baths, swimming pools, suanas. Use a dry brush, exfoliator or body scrub 2 days after waxing, then 2 or 3 times a week after that to reduce ingrowing hairs.

Electrolysis Hair Removal

By RMUK on October 13th, 2008

Electrolysis Hair Removal.

Electrolysis Hair RemovalElectrolysis is an effective method of permanently removing unwanted hair  recommended by RMUK for facial hair. A fine hair like needle is inserted into the hair follicle then a controlled amount of heat is realised in the base of the follicle (the papilla) where the hair growth is then cauterized.

As hair grows in four different stages you will need to have a course of treatments every 3/4 weeks. However if the hair is dark the IPL – Intense pulsed light is a better and more permanent option.
